Sesshomaru

Sesshomaru is a character from an anime series called Inuyasha. In the series he is the older half-brother of the protagonist, Inuyasha. Sesshomaru is a full demon or youkai compared to Inuyasha who is a half-demon or hanyou. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha share the same father, a great youkai known as Inutaisho. Sesshomaru respected his father very much and tried desperately to earn his father’s approval and respect. However shortly after his mother’s death, Inutaisho started courting a human woman named Izayoi. Sesshomaru’s respect for his father ended after this as Sesshomaru views humans as being below him. He felt that Inutaisho tainted their prestigious line with the birth of his half brother Inuyasha. Sesshomaru is also ashamed that a human killed Inutaisho who was weakened in a fight with his ultimate foe, Ryūkotsusei, a dragon youkai. Sesshomaru began to hate Inuyasha for ruining his family. In the series we later find out that Inuyasha inherited a great sword called Tetsusaiga, which was forged from his father’s fang. This sword is capable of creating a lot of damage to demons when used to protect someone. Tetsusaiga created more hatred between the two brothers as Sesshomaru doesn’t believe that Inuyasha deserves such a sword, especially since he received a sword only capable of healing from his father. Sesshomaru also inherited the title of Lord of the Western Lands. Despite this he still challenges Inuyasha to fights and attempts to steal Tetsusaiga.

Later in the Inuyasha series, Sesshomaru is injured in a fight and decides to rest in a forest as he heals. A young human girl, Rin, stumbles upon Sesshomaru and decides to bring him food everyday and attempts to befriend the demon lord. Shortly after Sesshomaru heals he finds Rin’s village destroyed by wolves and finds Rin’s mutilated corpse. For the first time Sesshomaru uses the sword his father left him called Tenseiga to heal Rin. From that point on Sesshomaru slowly becomes more compassionate. He takes Rin with him as he patrols his lands and she calls him Lord Sesshomaru. Rin rides a two-headed dragon called Ah-Un to keep up with him. Rin also develops a fondness for Kohaku the younger brother of one of the people in Inuyasha’s group. She also likes Kagome and Shippo who are also members of Inuyasha’s group.

In the later part of the series Rin and Kohaku are kidnapped by the ‘Dog from Hell. ’ Rin is killed by the ‘Dog from Hell’ and Sesshomaru is unable to bring Rin back to life as Tenseiga only works one time. Sesshomaru is devastated by this information. After they return from the Land of the Dead Sesshomaru’s mother uses a stone to bring Rin back to life again. Sesshomaru is happy enough that he actually shows emotion and tenderly touches her cheek. Sadly in the final chapters of the manga, Rin moves in with Kaede, an elderly miko, and learns how to live with other humans. Sesshomaru visits often and brings her gifts, but their relationship is no longer as carefree as it once was.
